Starting therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. Group therapy can raise additional questions: Will I have to talk? Will I fit in? Will it feel awkward?
In reality, well-structured online group therapy can be one of the most supportive and effective ways to build emotional skills and reduce feelings of isolation.
At The Therapy Programme, every session is led live by a qualified, registered therapist and follows a clear, trauma-informed structure. Sessions typically include:
A gentle check-in or grounding exercise
Guided activities or therapeutic exercises
Group discussion and reflection
Time to pause, reflect, or take breaks if needed
Groups are kept small (maximum 8 participants) and carefully curated so participants share similar experiences or challenges. This helps create a sense of safety, understanding, and connection — many people find it reassuring to realise they’re not alone in how they feel.
Each week introduces a different therapeutic approach:
Counselling focuses on coping skills, thoughts, emotions, and everyday challenges
Psychotherapy explores patterns, behaviours, and deeper emotional understanding
Art therapy supports expression and insight through simple creative activities
Music therapy uses lyric analysis and songwriting to explore emotions and identity
Online delivery makes therapy more accessible. People can join from their own space, without travel, and with fewer barriers — particularly helpful for those with anxiety, busy schedules, or limited local services.
Importantly, participation is always optional. No one is pressured to speak or share. Many people find that listening and reflecting is just as valuable as talking, especially at the start
When delivered safely and thoughtfully, online group therapy offers structure, connection, and real emotional support — without the pressure of doing it alone.
